NFL Rule Changes Protect Snappers

The NFL approved a number of rule changes today, one of which will help snappers on field goals and extra points.  Specifically, the new rule states that a defensive player who is within one yard of the line of scrimmage at the snap must have his entire body outside of the long snapper’s shoulder pads on field goals or extra point attempts.  A similar rule was passed a few years ago, but the safety of snappers remains an issue because of a lack of consistent enforcement of the existing rule.
